Austin Acupuncture for Pain Relief:

Time-Tested, Free of Side Effects

Female Receiving Acupuncture

Acupuncture is proven method for pain control with has been used for thousands of years. By inserting sterile, fine needles into specific points on the skin, acupuncture helps stimulate the flow of Qi through the body, relieving inflammation and promoting healing.

Acupuncture also helps to trigger  the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, along with serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with mood.

Our Austin acupuncture clinic practitioners are all trained in China universities and also have served as professors of acupuncture here in Austin at the AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine.

Acupuncture is used for a variety of painful conditions, ranging from low back pain and nerve pain (such as painful shingles rashes) to fibromyalgia, menstrual cramps, and headaches.

Other Conditions Relieved by Acupuncture

 Acupuncture has shown efficacy for various chronic pain conditions, both chronic and acute. Here at our Austin acupuncture clinic, we treat a variety of conditions, including;

Studies on the cost-effectiveness of acupuncture for pain relief, considering measures of quality of life, prove how helpful acupuncture truly.  Acupuncture research has a long-standing history, and ongoing acupunture studies continue to support its effectiveness in treating pain.

What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?

Your acupuncturist will gently insert  hair-thin needles on particular points of your body. Once the needles are inserted, you'll be able to quietly rest in a soothing, dark room. Patients often report feeling energized or relaxed after acupuncture sessions.

Our acupuncturists are all fully trained and licensed, ensuring both comfort and safety. The FDA closely regulates acupuncture needles, adhering to good manufacturing practices and single-use standards of sterility.

In addition to needles, in some cases other forms of stimulation can be utilized on acupuncture points, such as moxibustion (heat), acupressure (pressure), friction, cupping (suction), or electromagnetic impulses.

How Does Acupuncture Help in Pain Relief?

Acupuncture, an ancient healing practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body, aiming to restore the balance of energy, or qi. The mechanisms through which acupuncture alleviates pain are multifaceted and have been the subject of numerous studies and clinical trials.

  • Acupuncture Points and Nervous System Modulation

Acupuncture targets specific points along meridians, pathways believed to channel energy throughout the body. These points often coincide with nerve bundles, and the insertion of needles stimulates these nerves. This stimulation triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, and activates the central nervous system. Consequently, pain signals are disrupted, and the perception of pain is reduced.

  • Inflammation Reduction and Improved Blood Circulation

Acupuncture has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects, which play a crucial role in pain management. By modulating the release of inflammatory markers, acupuncture helps mitigate the inflammatory response associated with various chronic pain conditions. Additionally, the therapy enhances blood circulation to affected areas, promoting the delivery of oxygen and nutrients necessary for tissue repair and reducing pain associated with poor circulation.

  • Neurotransmitter Regulation and Pain Gate Control

Acupuncture influences the release and regulation of neurotransmitters, chemicals that transmit signals in the nervous system. Serotonin and norepinephrine, for example, are neurotransmitters associated with mood and pain perception. Acupuncture helps regulate their levels, contributing to an improved mood and reduced sensitivity to pain. Moreover, the therapy engages the pain gate control mechanism, where the stimulation of non-painful sensations competes with and diminishes the perception of pain signals in the central nervous system.

  • Individualized Treatment and Holistic Healing

One of the strengths of acupuncture lies in its personalized approach to pain relief. Practitioners assess each individual's unique constitution, considering physical, emotional, and environmental factors. By addressing the root causes of pain rather than merely alleviating symptoms, acupuncture promotes holistic healing. This patient-centered approach not only aids in pain management but also enhances overall well-being, making acupuncture a valuable option in the comprehensive treatment of various pain conditions.

What to Expect on Your Acupuncture Visit

At the beginning of your appointment, your acupuncturist will first carefully take your patient history, do a physical exam and make notes on your symptoms. The physical exam may include:

  • Assessing painful areas of your body
  • Observing the shape, coating, and color of your tongue
  • Noting the color of your face
  • Evaluating the strength, rhythm, and quality of your wrist pulse

Acupuncture sessions typically last about 45 minutes, although some appointments may be shorter. For a single complaint, a common treatment plan usually involves one or two sessions per week. The number of treatments required depends on the nature and severity of the condition.

Inserting the Needle

Thin acupuncture needles are gently inserted at various depths into strategic points on your body, with minimal or no discomfort.

Rest and Relax

Next, you'll rest and relax after the needles have been placed.

Removing the Needle

In most cases, the needles are left in place for 30 minutes while you relax on the table.

Following an acupuncture treatment, some individuals may feel relaxed, while others may experience a sense of rejuvenation.

I have been going to Dr. Wang for 2 years. The staff is amazing, the office is clean and inviting. Dr. Wang goes above and beyond to help you with pain. I had two surgeries done, without any POST surgeries pain meds. I asked Dr. Wang to prepare me before both surgeries, and give me herbs for the after pain relief. I was pleasantly surprise when in both cases I took the herbs for 2 days only, and didn't experience any pain discomfort. Dr. Wang is the best!

I was referred to Dr. Wang by another veteran named Ryan. I have been experiencing great pain in both lower legs and feet from having neuropathy due to diabetes. I have also been experiencing lower back pain and extensive pain in both knees. Dr. Wang has now been treating my ailments for 1 week and I can tell the difference with his acupuncture and herbs. I will continue to visit his office until I am cured. I highly recommend you to see him if you're in some kind of discomfort. If you're scared of needles no worries, very painless and did I mention that his staff is very professional and courteous. Don't hesitate, go see Dr. Wang.

My mom woke up one morning during our visit to Texas and had extreme shoulder pain. She called Acupuncture Plus and they said they have an opening but we had to be there within 20min. They took her right in for a 1-1/2hr session. During this time the specialist also educated her on exercises and preventative measures and even gave her some herbal medicine to assist her with the pain and recovery. When we went to pick her up, the staff was very hospitable to us, offering hot tea or water. My mom said her shoulder felt much better and she knows that she wouldnt need another session for a while. Thank you Acupuncture Plus for accomodating my mom in a time of need!
